Jasper (AB), Canada – A 21-year-old Alberta man died in an accident on Mar. 9 while snowboarding at Marmot Basin ski area in Jasper National Park.
Christopher Sorensen, of Sherwood Park, a suburb of Edmonton, reportedly caught and edge and crashed into a safety fence lining a groomed run near the top of Marmot’s Eagle Ridge chairlift. Investigating RCMP officers indicate that Sorensen was an experienced rider who was wearing a helmet at the time.
Sorensen and his friends were filming with a portable camera at the time of the incident, which the RCMP has ruled accidental. Sorensen was pronounced dead at an area hospital.
