Telluride officials indicate that the annual competition created a strain on resources to build and maintain the course on the resort’s Misty Maiden run at a time when they’re busy ramping up for the all-important Christmas-New Year’s holiday. They also indicated that they were getting little bang for their buck.

To get the course ready last December, Telluride officials had to divert attention away from the Telluride Trail, an important link for skiers wanting to descend into town. The run opened late this winter as a result, upsetting many vacationers.

In other Telluride news, the ski resort purchased the 32-unit Inn at Lost Creek, in the center of the resort village near Lift 4, from Ektornet at the end of April for $4.5 million.
