Loveland Plans Snowmaking Beginning Next Week

Georgetown, CO – With a series of cold fronts moving through the Colorado Rockies, Loveland Ski Area has indicated that it plans to begin making snow a week from tonight.

Locked in a perennial race with nearby Arapahoe Basin ski area for the first to open in the Rocky Mountains, Loveland is optimistic that temperatures will drop below freezing in time to turn on the guns next Friday night. The latest front to sweep through the region dropped a dusting of snow at higher elevations yesterday.

A-Basin has yet to divulge its early season snowmaking plans, and neither resort is yet willing to venture a guess on when they might open. Last season Loveland lost to A-Basin by six days, opening for the season on Oct. 23.
