Taylors Falls, MN – It hasn’t been cold enough to make snow yet this year at Wild Mountain, but the Minnesota ski area’s annual rail jam will go forward as scheduled this weekend anyway, thanks to mSnow.

In seasons past, Wild Mountain is traditionally one of the first ski areas to make snow in the Midwest, doing so to open the resort as soon as autumn temperatures permit. The rail jam, held in conjunction with Wild Mountain’s annual Open House and Swap, has previously taken place on snow.

But lacking adequately cold snowmaking temperatures, Wild Mountain is turning this year to mSnow, a synthetic snow surface made in Plainwell, Mich., from recycled construction barrels, those orange plastic barriers that pop up all summer long alongside roads, streets and freeways nationwide.

This year’s competition at Wild Mountain will include ski and snowboard divisions. Registration will open at 10 a.m. on Saturday and costs $5 to ride from 10:30 a.m. until 1 p.m., although registration is free if you bring a winter clothing item to donate to YouthLink MN. It’s $8 to pre-register for the best trick contest with a coupon code at www.bordergrounds.com. Best trick divisions will get underway at 1 p.m.
