Newry, ME – A day after Vermont’s Killington Resort announced that it would operate tomorrow through Sunday (and incidentally actually opened at 1:30 p.m. this afternoon in a 35-degree rain storm), Sunday River Resort in Maine has confirmed that it, too, will offer skiing and riding this weekend.
Thanks to snowmaking efforts since Tuesday, Sunday River intends to open two trails and one lift for skiing and snowboarding this Saturday and Sunday.
“Anytime you can ski before Halloween it’s considered a success,” says Dana Bullen, Resort President and General Manager. “Our snowmakers have been working nonstop to get us to this point and we’re thrilled to be able to offer this experience.”
On Saturday, the resort will begin spinning its Locke Mountain Triple chairlift at 8 a.m. with skiing and snowboarding available until 3:30 p.m. on its T2 and Upper Sunday Punch trails. At the end of the day, guests will download using the lift’s mid-mountain station.
“For anyone new to our early season mix, you can expect there to be some waiting to board and re-board the lift, as well as some waiting to download this same lift once your day is done,” resort officials explained in this afternoon’s snow report. “The good news is that you’re skiing, the weather looks incredible, and everyone’s in the same boat.”
Open terrain scheduled for this weekend is for advanced skiers and snowboarders only. If temperatures allow, additional snowmaking will continue to take place throughout the weekend.
Lift tickets will cost $29 for all ages and will be available to purchase from Sunday River’s Baker Base Lodge. Season passes are also available to purchase/pick up for the 2013-14 season out of the South Ridge Lodge.
Come Monday, Sunday River will shut down with plans to reopen in the near future. The resort will operate seven days a week once more terrain is opened.
