Lake Tahoe, CA/NV – Snowfall reached all the way down to lake level at resorts surrounding Lake Tahoe overnight, with depths of up to a foot reported at higher elevations.
“Winter is here,” said Jim Larmore, Director of Mountain Operations at Northstar, where 12 inches of snowfall was reported this morning at the summit and 1o inches at mid-mountain. “The conditions are allowing us to start making snow a little earlier than we’d planned to. We’re firing up the snowmaking guns today to compliment the natural snow this storm has brought so we can take full advantage of our systems.”
“We’ve enjoyed a long fall season, but with the drop in temperature, it’s time to focus on preparing for winter and begin making snow, ensuring we have the quality early season conditions our guests have come to expect from us,” added Pete Sonntag, vice president and chief operating officer of Heavenly, where six to eight inches of snowfall was reported this morning. “There is something about this time of year leading up to the winter season. It holds so much promise, and you can feel the anticipation building in the community and among our staff. Starting up the snow guns signifies the end of one season and the beginning of another.”
Snowfall is predicted to continue throughout today and tomorrow, with a winter storm advisory in effect throughout the day in the greater Lake Tahoe area.
