Pagosa Springs, CO – The 2014 U.S. Freestyle Moguls Team, led by Olympic Champion Hannah Kearney and Olympic bronze medalist Bryon Wilson, was named this week in advance of the Dec. 14 FIS Freestyle World Cup season opener in Ruka, Finland. The team was publicly announced at Pagosa Springs Spa and Resort in Colorado on Saturday during the Team’s final pre-season on-snow camp at the nearby Wolf Creek Ski Area.
“I am really looking forward to the upcoming season,” said head coach Scott Rawles. “We have had great preparation this summer at all of our camps and all the athletes have been working very hard and are very focused on the task at hand this winter. We had an amazing year last season and have a lot of momentum coming in to the upcoming competition season. Everyone knows this is a big year with the Olympics in Sochi and it is going to be an amazing ride with all of the great skiers that we have on our team.”
The Team also features 2009 World Champion Pat Deneen, Heather McPhie and Bradley Wilson, younger brother to Byron Wilson. In all, 20 athletes were named to the team this season, including three newcomers — Bruce Perry Jr., Keaton McCargo and Sophia Schwartz — whose standout performances last season earned them a slot on the squad.
“I’m thrilled to be a part of such a strong U.S. Freestyle Mogul team!” said McPhie, of Bozeman, Mont. “It’s an honor to be named to the team again and to have the opportunity to represent my country heading into the 2014 competiton season. Our team dynamic is great, and we are pushing each other every day to do the best we can!”
The FIS World Cup season opens Dec. 14 in Ruka, Finland. The World Cup tour visits the U.S. on Jan. 9-11 for the Visa Freestyle International at Utah’s Deer Valley Resort followed by the USANA Freestyle World Cup Jan. 15-18. in Lake Placid, N.Y., the final domestic stop before the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia. The final Olympic Team will be named in late January.
