Tannersville, PA – Construction has been underway since September on Camelback Mountain Resort’s new $163 million lodge and indoor waterpark.
The Pocono ski and snowboard resort already operates summer an expansive outdoor water park, dubbed CamelBeach, during summer months. In addition to adding a year-round indoor facility, the construction project will add Camelback’s first resort-owned hotel.
“This is an exciting time for Camelback Mountain Resort,” said co-owner Arthur Berry III. “It’s a time to celebrate and look back at 50 years of history and it’s an excellent time to announce construction of what will become the most interactive resort destination in the country. In many ways, we’re just getting warmed up.”
The new 453-room hotel and indoor water park is scheduled to open in spring 2015 at the base of Camelback Mountain. The eight story, 533,000 square-foot mountain-modern style architectural lodge will feature four restaurants including a ski-in ski-out bar and outdoor patio at the base of the mountain, a 10,000 square-foot luxury spa and fitness center, a conference center featuring 25,000 square feet of meeting space, and the largest indoor waterpark ever constructed in a single phase in the U.S.
The centerpiece of the nearly 170,000 square-foot indoor entertainment center will be the 82-degree, 125,000 square-foot, highly-themed indoor adventure waterpark. There will be 30,000 square feet of dry play amusement including an arcade, game center, kids’ club activity center, ropes course, mini-golf, laser tag and more. No matter what the season, the sun will shine down through a state-of-the-art Texlon transparent roof. The waterpark will boast seven pools including recreational, zero-depth kids’ pools, an adventure river and wave pool and 19 slides and rides, including family rides, daring slides, and a FlowRider boogie-board and surfing attraction.
Camelback Lodge & Indoor Waterpark is the largest capital improvement in the 50-year history of Camelback Mountain Resort. Combined with Camelback’s winter operations, outdoor waterpark, tree-top adventure center and snowtubing park, Camelback Mountain Resort will soon offer a full slate of year-round amenities for guests traveling to eastern Pennsylvania from some of the Northeast’s most populous urban centers.
“The Pocono Mountains welcomes the addition of Camelback Lodge & Indoor Waterpark to its already existing tourism landscape of attractions and accommodations,” said Carl Wilgus, president/CEO of the Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau. “The new lodge and indoor waterpark combined with Camelback Mountain Resort’s history of quality management and customer service excellence will make this a welcome addition and asset to the Pocono Mountains tourism product.”
