Schweitzer Reports Strong Holiday Season Despite Little Snow

Sandpoint, ID – Officials at Idaho’s Schweitzer Mountain Resort are reporting a successful holiday season, despite less than average snowfall.

The two-week holiday period, which begins before Christmas and runs through the new year, showed a two-percent increase in skier visits and a six-percent increase in revenue when compared to last year’s holiday period.

While visits and revenue were up, snowfall was quite the opposite. At the end of December 2012 Schweitzer had received 182 inches of snowfall, compared to just 74 inches at the end of 2013.

Tom Chasse, Schweitzer’s President and CEO, attributes the successful holiday season to Schweitzer’s guest service. “Over the past five years Schweitzer has strived to create a consistent customer experience – regardless of the weather,” he said. “We have many programs in place to keep our guests happy on and off the slopes. I believe this strong holiday period is a testament to what we’ve accomplished over the years.”

It may have helped as well that many resorts to Schweitzer’s west in Washington were even worse off. Mt. Spokane and Summit-at-Snoqualmie both have yet to open for skiing this winter.

Despite the limited snowfall this season, Schweitzer has managed to open all 2,900 acres of the resort’s ski and snowboard terrain. Currently their village base depth is 27 inches and the summit base depth is 49 inches. More snow is in the forecast for the resort over the next week.
