In-Bounds Avalanche Catches Three at Breckenridge

Breckenridge, CO – Breckenridge Ski Resort officials are acknowledging that an avalanche on open in-bounds terrain caught three guests last week, the Summit Daily News is reporting.

The slide occurred on Thursday afternoon, Jan. 2, on Whale’s Tail, located near the summit of the Imperial Express SuperChair between Peaks 7 and 8. The incident took place shortly after patrollers opened the run for the first time this season. None of the guests reported any injury, according to resort spokesperson Kristen Pettit Stewart.

The Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC) is investigating the incident, but staffers were redeployed to nearby Vail Mountain to investigate Tuesday’s fatal avalanche in the East Vail Chutes. Breckenridge officials have promised to share the CIAC report once it becomes available.
