Lawsuit Filed Over Snowmass Snowboard Collision

Snowmass, CO – A lawsuit was filed in a Federal court in Denver on Friday over a collision between two snowboarders at Snowmass last winter.

German national Lothar Krachen alleges that he was snowboarding in Snowmass’ Alpine Springs area on the resort’s intermediate level Naked Lady run on March 5, 2013 when Richard Price, of nearby Basalt, Colo., crashed into him, causing serious spinal and shoulder injuries.

The complaint contends that Price approached Krachen from above, and was at all times the overtaking snowboarder and therefore had the duty to avoid a collision as specified by the Colorado Ski Safety Act. Price’s attorney told the Denver Post that evidence will suggest that Krachen crashed with Price first.

According to the lawsuit Krachen, who underwent arthroscopic surgery on his shoulder upon returning to Germany, has not yet received medical clearance to return to his employment as a pilot with the German airline Lufthansa.
