Vermont Ski Resorts Prepare Events and Deals for Martin Luther King Weekend

Montpelier, VT – January’s three-day holiday weekend is a great time to visit Vermont’s ski slopes, not only for the snow, but also for the special line-up of events and deals.

Jay Peak Resort
Guests can start off the MLK weekend with a Late Night Splash at Jay Peak’s Pump House; the water park stays open until midnight for those 21 and up on Friday, January 16. The juniors will need to rest up for the Ski the East Junior Extreme Challenge on Saturday and everyone is invited to enjoy the country tunes of Clare Dunn at the Foeger Ballroom Saturday night.

Smugglers’ Notch Resort
For the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend, Smugglers’ Notch Resort’s lowest rates starting at $95 per youth and $125 per adult per night apply to stays of five nights or more, with arrivals Jan. 14-18. Smugglers’ offers a ski-and-stay package featuring children’s snowsports instruction, and a package including snowsports instruction for all ages. This web special requires an arrival on January 16, 17 or 18 and departure January 19, 20 or 21, 2014, with a minimum stay of three nights. It must be booked at least one day prior to arrival, and is valid on new reservations only.

Okemo Mountain Resort
Okemo turns MLK weekend into a family affair with a variety of activities and events all weekend long. In addition to skiing and riding on 120 trails, Okemo offers snow tubing, mountain coaster rides, snowshoeing, Nordic skiing, ice skating, kids’ snowmobile tours, and special evening snowcat excursions. There’s even a Shakin’ Skate ice skating disco party with disco lights and a DJ on Saturday night and a free fireworks and laser light show on Sunday, dubbed “Let It Glow”.

Guests attending Let It Glow will feel immersed in a laser canopy of illumination as colorful beams will bounce off the snow of Okemo’s Bull Run trail located just outside The Sitting Bull restaurant and bar in the Clock Tower base area. A fireworks grand finale will punctuate the event with a black-powder exclamation point.

Stratton Mountain Resort
Beyond big mountain skiing and riding, guests will find a full menu of activities and events at Stratton this MLK weekend including the Ro Jam Bo Rail Jam Series returning Jan. 18 with pro and amateur classes and cash prizes. The Sun Bowl is a veritable winter wonderland with fast paced snowtubing, snowmobile tours and dogsledding, the magic of an Ice Castle handcrafted with thousands of icicles, cross-country trails and snowshoe tours. Then there’s live music at Grizzly’s, fireside yoga at the Living Room, Spin classes at the Stratton Training and Fitness Center. After all that, it’s time for a visit to the Village Day Spa and dinner at any one of the resort restaurants including Green Apron at the Golf Course with a view to the mountain and the nighttime grooming operations to get ready to do it all over again the next day.

Mount Snow Resort
The holiday weekend at Mount Snow is loaded with events including live music from The Jeff Tuohy Band at Snow Barn on Saturday night, a huge torchlight parade and fireworks show on Sunday night and Grommet Jam #2 on Monday.

Bromley Mountain
Over the MLK weekend  at Bromley there will be live music in the Wild Boar both Saturday (Satellite Shine) and Sunday (Mike McMann), and the Kids Lounge will be open for the younger set. Video games, movies, Vew-Do Boards and more for kids keeps the weekend fun rolling after lifts close. Bromley will even have a Burton Riglet Park set up at the base from 4:30 p.m. until dark for mini-shredding. Those who stick around for Monday, Jan. 19 can purchase a Sun Mountain Special $52 all-day lift ticket at bromley.com.
