Government Camp, OR – A 37-year-old Oregon man died in a skiing accident at Mt. Hood Skibowl on New Year’s Eve.
Then Portland Oregonian is reporting that the Clackamas County Sheriff confirmed the death, but didn’t issue a press release on the incident as no other skiers were involved. Brian Fletcher, of Medford, was descending Skibowl’s black diamond Middle Reynolds trail at around 10 p.m. on Dec. 31 when he caught an edge and fell, landing on his head and chest.
Fletcher was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a separate incident, the Clackamas County Sheriff is also reporting that an injured climber was rescued from Mt. Hood on Wednesday, Jan. 7. Edward Trompke, 62, of Lake Oswego, Ore., was on a two-day summit attempt of Mt. Hood with his son when he had a crampon break near the Hogsback. After deciding to descend, Tromke fell and slid about 200 feet, according to the sheriff’s office, injuring his shoulder and head.
Paramedics with American Medical Response’s Reach and Treat (RAT) Team responded to the scene and evacuated Tromke with a Sked device.
The extent of Tromke’s injuries is unknown.
