Ski Crash at Keystone Takes Life of Air Force Cadet

Keystone, CO – A 18-year-old cadet at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs died during a skiing accident at Keystone Resort last weekend, officials have announced.

Cadet 4th Class John “Jack”  Lindsey was descending Keystone’s intermediate Elk Run on Saturday when he crashed. Lindsey, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Summit County Coroner. The cause of death was determined to be an accident.

A native of Ruston, La., Lindsey was in Keystone to participate in the resort’s annual SnoFest, a special weekend held for as many as 4,000 airmen, retirees and family members from Colorado and Wyoming.

Academy leaders informed the Cadet Wing, as well as Academy staff and faculty of the tragic loss during a special announcement.

“The Academy is deeply saddened by the loss of one of our own. Our most sincere condolences go out to Jack’s family,” said Academy Superintendent, Lt. Gen. Michelle D. Johnson. “This tragedy affects not only his family at home, but all of our cadets, staff, and faculty who were fortunate enough to know Jack and were touched by his positive attitude and passion for life.”
