Sugarbush and Mad River Glen to Co-host Ski Mountaineering Race

Waitsfield, VT – Vermont’s Sugarbush and Mad River Glen will be co-hosting the Mad River Valley Ski Mountaineering Race this Sunday.

The race starts at the base of Mad River Glen with participants climbing the mountain via the Lower Antelope and Upper Antelope trails before turning onto the Long Trail. The Long Trail traverses across the Monroe Skyline before connecting to Sugarbush’s Exterminator on Mt. Ellen. Pro division racers must then ascend Upper FIS and ski down, where the course for all racers continues onto Rim Run and then Lower FIS before moving into the Slide Brook Wilderness Basin. The trail leads racers to Village Run at Sugarbush’s Lincoln Peak where the race continues on Castlerock Connection, Castlerock Runout, Header, Lower Downspout, and finally Coffee Run. The race finishes outside of the Valley House. The course route is subject to change based on conditions.

Preregistration for competitors costs $40 for adults and $20 for junior competitors ages 17 and under. Racers must pick up bibs from 8 to 9 a.m. in Mad River Glen’s Basebox. There will then be a mandatory competitor’s meeting at 9:45 a.m.,followed by the start of the race at 10 a.m. Sugarbush and Mad River Glen recommend the use of helmets, but they are not required for the race.

Following the race, an awards ceremony and après party will be held in Sugarbush’s Wunderbar.
