Wofford Heights, CA – Two men and one woman have been arrested on first-degree murder charges on Tuesday, after what authorities in California discovered what they believe is a homicide scene at the Alta Sierra Ski Resort at Shirley Meadows.
Kern County Sheriff’s deputies served a search warrant on a home in nearby South Lake in connection with the disappearance of Carl Woolwine, of Kernville, Calif. In searching the home, information was uncovered that led investigators to the ski area, where the suspected crime scene was discovered in an unspecified outdoor area. Sheriff’s officials have not confirmed whether or not they have yet found a body.
Arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder are: Bobbie Dale Rhynes, 43; Joan Allaine Noble, 35; and Thomas Ray Ertz, 28. Bail has been set for Rhynes at $1 million, while Noble and Ertz are being held without bail at the Kern County Jail.
Sheriff’s officials aren’t yet saying if the murder investigation is connected to the disappearance of Woolwine, who was reported missing by family members on Monday. It is also not yet known if the suspected victim has any association with the ski area, although Woolwine had reportedly been working there on weekends. Woolwine’s truck was found abandoned in Wofford Heights, several miles from the ski area, on Sunday night.
Authorities have also not yet said if either of their current investigations have any connection with the case of Woolwine’s 16-year-old daughter, who ran away to Texas with a 48-year-old family friend earlier this year. That friend, Maciej Ignaciuk, a.k.a. Max Kozak, was sentenced to 32 months in prison in connection with that case after pleading no contest to charges of unlawful sexual intercourse.
