Breckenridge, CO – As if a $140 lift ticket and daily fees of up to $20 to park aren’t enough, Breckenridge skiers will also be paying a 4.5% lift ticket tax beginning next year.
Despite months of controversy leading up to Tuesday’s vote on ballot question 2A, voter turnout in this Colorado mountain town was rather sparse. Yet voters overwhelmingly approved the new tax on all winter day lift tickets that will take effect on July 1, 2016.
The final tally was 917 votes in favor, and 185 opposed.
Vail Resorts officials vociferously opposed the new tax, which will fund traffic, transit and parking solutions. Nevertheless, through an agreement with the town, Vail Resorts provides a guarantee that the new tax will raise $3.5 million per year, adjusted annually for inflation.
Breckenridge’s new lift ticket tax affects only winter day tickets. Season passes and summer attraction tickets will not be affected.
