Killington, VT – Vermont’s Killington Resort first started its lifts last month for skiers and riders anxious to get the 2015-16 party started. Eight ski days were logged, but a late Indian Summer in New England caused the snow to melt out and the lifts to go dormant.
Now, with a return to colder weather, Killington’s snowmakers are at it again.
Killington will reopen for skiing and riding at 10 a.m. this Sunday.
Snowmakers have been working hard, preparing the North Ridge area for the arrival of snowmaking temperatures, which are expected to return late this evening. Their aggressive plan calls for full-tilt snowmaking to continue as long as favorable weather lasts.
On Sunday morning Killington plans to have two open trails, Rime and Reason, served by the North Ridge Triple. The K-1 Express Gondola will provide uploading and downloading and skiers will need to use the Peak Walkway to and from the open North Ridge Area.
The K-1 Express Gondola will upload from 10 a.m. 3 p.m. and downloading will be available until 4 p.m. The North Ridge Triple will allow uploading until 3:45 p.m.
Skiing and snowboarding will be on advanced terrain only and no easier terrain will be available. Early season conditions including ongoing snowmaking will exist, Killington officials indicate, and they’re hopeful that this time their season opening will stick.
