Bromont (QC), Canada – A fire on Wednesday night caused heavy damage to a ski lift at Bromont, in Quebec’s Eastern Townships.
A passer-by first noticed the flames and called authorities. The resort’s Versant du Lac #5 Doppelmayr CTEC detachable quad chair sustained heavy damage to its gearbox, operator station, brake system and several chairs. The entire mountain was closed at the time due to heavy rainfall in the area, and no injuries were reported.
The lift is expected to be out of service for the rest of the season. While all of the runs serviced by lift #5 are also accessible via Bromont’s lifts #3 and 4 on Versant du Village, returning to the mountain’s front side from Versant du Lac and Versant des Epinettes will now require following a circuitous route that includes descending Versant du Midi and returning via chairlift #8.
“Following a fire at the base of chairlift #5 on the Versant du Lac, it will be out of service for an indeterminant time. The incident is presently under investigation to determine the circumstances. We will keep you informed as soon as possible when we receive more informations. Please take note that for the meantime the parking lot P5 will be temporarily closed,” Bromont has posted on its website
