New York Resort Gives Up on Ski Season

Tupper Lake, NY – The ski lifts at Big Tupper haven’t spun since last season, and the volunteers who operate the resort have now confirmed that they’re remain dormant for the rest of this winter.

Adirondack Residents Intent on Saving their Economy, or ARISE, had planned to operate Big Tupper ski area again this winter. Now, however, Big Tupper is the first known season-long casualty of an unusually warm, snowless winter in the northeastern U.S.

“We are sorry to announce that the ARISE Board has made the difficult decision to not open Big Tupper this season,” the group posted to Big Tupper’s website this week. “While the weather has worked against our efforts this year, let’s keep our eye to a brighter future.  Please know that this decision did not come easily and that your efforts are greatly appreciated.   There are a lot of discussions taking place about the future operation – all very positive.  We will make every effort to keep you updated as things unfold.”
