Bansko, Bulgaria – A 45-year-old Romanian man died on Sunday while skiing at Bansko.
Bulgarian news agencies are reporting that the accident occurred at about 2 p.m. on Sunday in a ravine adjacent to the Banderitza quad lift below Todorka Peak. It has been reported that the unnamed victim died after he lost control at high speed and slid off the resort’s marked Tomba run into the ravine, where he collided with a rock.
Bansko’s Tomba run is rated “most difficult.” First responders were unable to resuscitate the victim at the scene, and a call for a rescue helicopter was canceled. Local police are continuing their investigation.
