Aspen, CO – A 67-year-old hedge fund founder died on Monday in a Colorado hospital, one week after he was injured in a crash at Snowmass.

Donald Drapkin, who split his time between Aspen and Englewood, N.J., was skiing with an instructor and his son when he was involved in a seemingly minor fall at Snowmass. He was later airlifted to a Denver hospital after experiencing dizziness and nausea, and underwent surgery to reduce pressure on his brain.
Drapkin was the chairman, founder and principal partner at Casablanca Capital LP, a New York-based hedge fund, and was known as a protegé of Ronald Perlman before a falling out led to a lawsuit between the two. A frequent philanthropist, Drapkin was an active member of the boards of Theater Aspen and the Aspen Music Festival and School.
