Skier Strikes Tree and Dies at Snowbasin

Huntsville, UT – A 56-year-old New Jersey man died after colliding with a tree while skiing at Snowbasin Resort on Monday.

Police say thatĀ Frank Maddaloni, of Califon, N.J., was found unconscious after colliding with a tree, suffering a traumatic head injury. He was not wearing a helmet.

Resort officials indicate that Maddaloni was skiing alone on Snowbasin’s Janis’ trail, an advanced run beneath the John Paul Express chairlift, when the incident occurred. Maddaloni was airlifted to the nearby Ogden Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Maddaloni’s Facebook page indicates that Monday was his first day vacationing at the Utah resort.

Maddaloni was a financial planner employed with Prudential Financial in East Brunswick, N.J.
