Avon, CO – The 39-year-old owner of a celebrated Tennessee resort died on Thursday in a skiing accident at Beaver Creek Resort in Colorado.
Sam Beall of Knoxville, Tenn., owner of Blackberry Farm, died at Vail Valley Medical Center following an accident on an unspecified intermediate run at Beaver Creek. No further details regarding the incident were available.
“Beaver Creek Resort, Beaver Creek Ski Patrol and the Vail Resorts family extend their deepest sympathy and support to the family and friends of the man,” resort officials said in a prepared statement.
Beall’s father purchased Blackberry Farm in Walland, Tenn., in the early 1970s after founding the Ruby Tuesday restaurant chain, and Beall took over in 1998. In addition to earning three James Beard awards, Blackberry Farm was named the country’s best hotel for food lovers by Bon Appetit magazine in 2013 and the nation’s number-one hotel by Travel & Leisure.
Beall leaves behind a wife and five children.
