Austria’s Eva-Marie Brem Breaks Leg

Thurn Pass, Austria – Austria’s Eva-Marie Brem, the reigning World Cup giant slalom champion, is out for the season after breaking her leg during training on Friday.

Brem, 28, was training on the Thurn Pass for the upcoming World Cup ski races in Levi, Finland when she straddled a gate, fracturing both bones in her lower left leg, the tibia and fibula.

Brem was transported to the nearby Hochrum hospital, where the injury was confirmed.

“Both the tibia and the fibula are broken, which requires a surgical intervention to stabilize the bones and facilitate the healing process. Brem will be sidelined for four to six months,” Austrian Team Doctor Christian Hoser confirmed.

Brem suffered the identical injury while freeskiing in 2010. Just a week earlier, she had been awarded “Sportswoman of the Year”, Austria’s top athletic honor.
