Sun Valley, ID – Fat biking continues to grow in popularity around the country, and Idaho’s Sun Valley is a part of that growth.
If you’re looking for a day off the slopes. the Sun Valley Nordic Center added two more groomed trails for fat biking, Diamondback and White Clouds, bringing the total amount of riding available to 16 kilometers. Norco fat bikes are available to rent for a day or half-day, and includes a helmet. In addition, two fat bike races are happening at the Nordic Center this year, offering athletes an alternative way to compete in the winter.
For those with a competitive spirit, the Snowball Special is on tap in February. Held the past two years on the last weekend in January to kick off the Sun Valley Nordic Festival, the event has now been moved to Saturday, February 25 to accommodate a larger number of racers and be a part of a regional fat bike racing series.
For those who have not tried riding the snow on wide, balloon-like tires, the Sun Valley Nordic Center is offering first-timers a “Try It – Like It” program for only $20. The fee includes a two-hour trail pass and bike rental. Bikes are available in a full-range of sizes, from kids to extra-large adult.
Norco fat bike rentals are $45/day for adults (18-64) and seniors (65+), with half-day rentals starting at 1:00 p.m. for $35. Kids bikes are also available for $40/day or $30 for a half-day. Trail passes are $15/day for adults and seniors. Youth (12-17) trail passes are $10/day, and children under 11 years old are free.
