Hunter, NY – Tomorrow, Empire Parks at Hunter Mountain will present the inaugural Kaatskillz, a freestyle on-snow terrain park event themed after an urban skate park.
Freestyle skiers and riders near and far are invited to compete in Saturday’s Kaatskillz pro-am event, located on the main face of the mountain on Park Ave West. The event build is comprised of skate-park inspired features including hips, bowls, and rails, all of which competitors will be judged on their approach and style through the course. It will be hosted by Joey B of Freshies Media.
Top-placing competitors will receive prizes from event sponsors Clif Bar, Oakley, DC, Yakima, Monster Energy, and Hunter Mountain. Top snowboarders will receive a free trip to Mount Snow’s Carinthia Open Mega Plaza Event, Carinthia’s biggest event of the season. A total of $1,500 cash will be awarded to the top competitors in the pro division.
Pre-registration for the event is available online at huntermtn.com/empire. Participation is limited to 100 competitors. All participants must have a lift ticket or season pass to compete.
This will be the first event of its kind at Hunter Mountain, which has seen an uptick in Empire Parks improvements after Peak Resorts acquired the mountain last season. Peak Resorts, which also owns Carinthia Parks at Mount Snow in Vermont, and Big Boulder Park in Pennsylvania, has focused on aligning Empire Parks’ standards with those of Carinthia’s and Big Boulder’s, both rated two of the best terrain parks on the East Coast.
This season, Empire Parks added a terrain park to Drop Off on the main face of Hunter Mountain, and brought back the progression park build on Boston Road located on the Hunter One area of the mountain, raising the park total to four.
