Hesperus, CO – Colorado’s Hesperus Ski Area, 11 miles west of Durango, is closed indefinitely following a lift inspection last week by the Colorado Passenger Tramway Safety Board.

The Board did not disclose what shortcomings were uncovered during last Monday’s inspection, but instead issued a brief statement indicating that the ski area had closed voluntarily and cannot reopen until all operational and maintenance deficiencies are rectified.

Hesperus was purchased last year by James Coleman, who also owns nearby Purgatory Mountain Resort. All Hesperus season passes will be honored at Purgatory until Hesperus reopens.
