Bands to Rock Denver Big Air

Denver, CO – A pair of national touring bands will rock the Denver Big Air presented by Sprint Jan. 25-26. National recording artists Switchfoot and One Republic will appear on the Bud Light stage during the huge metro big air ski and snowboarding event later this month. The announcement was made late last week by the Denver Sports Commission, U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association and Anheuser-Busch. Admission for the concerts is included with the Denver Big Air presented by Sprint ticket.nThe bands will play their sets between the opening rounds and the finals of the competition on the mobile Bud Light stage that will be placed near the base of the 102-foot high Denver Big Air presented by Sprint ramp that will be in the middle of Civic Center Park in Downtown Denver. The concerts will provide a great diversion for the crowd after the opening round of the competitions as fans wait for officials to determine which competitors advance to the finals of their respective competitions.

“Entertainment is an integral part of sport and culture,” said USSA Chief Revenue and Marketing Officer Andrew Judelson. “In addition to watching athletes launch themselves into the nighttime air off a 100-foot high scaffold, fans can take in some fantastic, award winning musical entertainment on the Bud Light stage all on the same ticket.”

Grammy-nominated Switchfoot will play after the opening round of the “Battle of the Brands” ski competition, which is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. MT. The San Diego-based band is known for its energetic live shows, where three guitarists in the lineup often operate simultaneously. Switchfoot first gained mainstream recognition with the inclusion of four of its songs in the 2002 movie “A Walk to Remember.” Its major label debut in 2003, “The Beautiful Letdown,” sold over 2.6 million copies and produced the band’s best-known singles, “Meant to Live,” and “Dare You to Move.”

Colorado’s own One Republic will play after the opening round of the of the International Ski Federation (FIS) LG World Cup Snowboard competition, which is also scheduled to start at 5 p.m. MT. One Republic exploded from Colorado onto the national stage in 2007 with their Grammy-nominated single “Apologize” that was a number one hit in 16 countries from the album “Dreaming Out Loud.” The group built on that success with the single “Stop and Stare” in 2008 and released the full length “Waking Up” album, featuring the hit single “Secrets” in 2009.

Denver Big Air presented by Sprint is a two-day event revolving around world-class skiers and snowboarders flying off a 102-foot high ramp that will be built and covered with snow in the heart of Downtown Denver at Civic Center Park between the Colorado State Capitol building and the Denver City and County building. Ramp construction is scheduled to start this week.
