Searchers Look for Missing Snowboarder in Colorado

Berthoud Pass, CO – Authorities are continuing their efforts today to locate a snowboarder missing since Monday on Berthoud Pass in Colorado.nAs many as 15 members of Grand County Search and Rescue are searching the pass for the unidentified area snowboarder first reported missing at 3:30 p.m. on Monday as heavy snowfall descended upon the area and continued overnight Monday night. Colorado Dept. of Transportation authorities may restrict avalanche control on the west side of Berthoud Pass while search efforts are underway.

Searchers are concentrating on an area of the pass near what highway officials call “Seven Mile Run,” near the second switchback from the top of Berthoud Pass on the Grand County side where an avalanche was reported Monday afternoon. That area is known as “Below the Fingers” to backcountry skiers.

Berthoud Pass, which connects the Winter Park area to I-70, closed to vehicle traffic due to weather conditions and avalanche potential late Monday morning and remains closed as of press time.
