Innsbruck, Austria – The Austrian Ski Federation (OeSV) has confirmed that doctors in Innsbruck have begun to awaken ski racer Hans Grugger from a drug induced coma he’s been in since a horrific training crash in Kitzbuehel last Thursday that resulted in a severe head injury.n”The results of the latest tests are so positive that the medical team today started the wake-up phase,” the OeSV federation said in a prepared statement that went on to say that after gradually awakening Grugger, neurological tests will be conducted to determine the extent of the damage.
Shortly after being airlifted to a hospital in Innsbruck, doctors completed an emergency surgery to alleviate pressure on Grugger’s brain. It is unknown at this time if, and when, Grugger will return to ski racing.
