Olympic Valley, CA – A Reno, Nev. newspaper is reporting that Squaw Valley officials will today decide on a proposal for up to $50 million in upgrades to the North Lake Tahoe ski and snowboard resort.nIn an interview published by the Reno Gazette-Journal and referenced by the San Francisco Chronicle, Squaw Valley’s new CEO Andy Wirth is quoted as saying of the ski resort that hosted the 1960 Olympic Winter Games, “The only thing changing here is everything,” said Wirth. “We want to make sure we have the best of the best. This is an incredible piece of rock on which we operate.”
Wirth indicated that his company’s desire is to expand and improve upon the resort’s intermediate and beginner terrain and further develop real estate at the base of the resort to build its destination appeal. This could involve redeveloped terrain, new or realigned ski lifts or new on-mountain restaurants. Plans are expected to take three to five years to implement.
According to the published reports, Squaw Valley officials plan to decide between four competing visions of the resort’s re-development today. Resort owners KSL Capital Partners will further decide between four other companies vying to lead the base area real estate development effort later this month.
