Sun Peaks (BC), Canada – Skiing can be a challenge, even for the most talented athletes in the world. Add a physical disability into the mix and the obstacles increase exponentially. The Sun Peaks Adaptive Snow Sports Festival taking place at this ski resort in British Columbia, Canada, Feb. 11-13, is about inspiration and education as para-athletes of all abilities will gather together to defy extensive obstacles.nAdaptive Sports at Sun Peaks, the Disabled Skiers Association of British Columbia (DSABC), Sun Peaks Resort Corporation, the Delta Sun Peaks Resort hotel, and the Sun Peaks Alpine Club have teamed up to host the festival.

A key event at the Adaptive Snow Sports Festival will be the “Come and Try” portion where the physically disabled will be able to try a sit-ski first hand, and the able-bodied public will be able to view the adaptive equipment used in the program. Organizers say it’s a great opportunity for potential sit-ski athletes to really get a sense of how adaptive skiing feels. And for their able bodied family and friends, viewing the sit-ski and other equipment will give them a clearer picture of what it’s like for their physically disabled loved one.

In addition to the “Come and Try” opportunity, the Adaptive Snow Sports Festival also includes mini-workshops for volunteers and instructors, a Guesstimation Race where athletes will guess their time down a marked course, and a barbeque/awards ceremony.
