Salt Lake County Board Issues Preliminary Denial for Alpine Coaster at Snowbird

Snowbird, UT – Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort’s contentious proposal for an alpine coaster connecting the resort to the lower flanks of Mount Superior in Utah, and spanning Little Cottonwood Canyon Road, has been given a preliminary denial by the Salt Lake County Board of Adjustment.nThe County Planning Commission previously gave its approval to the year-round attraction. In its decision, the Board cited the coaster’s lack of snow related activity as the basis for its preliminary denial. In addition to skiing and snowboarding in winter, Snowbird already offers a number of summer attractions including an alpine slide, a zipline, climbing wall and more.

Snowbird proposed the alpine coaster to be built on land it owns as a means to broaden its off-season attractions. Opponents, including members of Save Our Canyons and other environmental groups, opposed the plan and staged several protests against the plan this spring.

The Board of Adjustment is expected to deliver its final decision in May.
