Snowfall at Washington’s Crystal Mountain Ski Resort Breaks Record

Crystal Mountain, WA –With the seven inches of snow that has accumulated last week, a new snowfall record has been set at Washington’s Crystal Mountain Resort. The previous record set during the 1998-99 ski and snowboard season was 592 inches and as of last Friday, Crystal has received 600 inches of snowfall in the 2010-11 season.

March was the snowiest month this season at Crystal Mountain with 134 inches of snowfall, second was December with 110 inches and April was the third snowiest with 91 inches.

“We have La Niña to thank for this banner snow year,” said Tiana Enger, Marketing Director at Crystal Mountain Resort. “Fortunately for skiers they can still take advantage of all this snow. We plan to remain open for skiing until this snow melts, which could be sometime in July.”

Crystal Mountain Resort plans to operate the Mt. Rainier Gondola and the Green Valley chairlift on Saturdays and Sundays for skiing well into June and possibly July. In 1999 Crystal was open for skiing until July 14th.

For the first time, Crystal Mountain Resort is fully accessible this summer beginning June 17th because of the addition of the Mt. Rainier Gondola. Crystal Mountain Resort will be open daily for sightseeing on the Mt. Rainier Gondola and dining at the Summit House. A summer kickoff party is scheduled for June 25th and 26th. As soon as the snow melts, summer activities such as hiking and biking, disc golf and horseback riding will be available daily. Until then, it’s still ski season at Crystal.
