Broomfield, CO – Vail Resorts is continuing its vertical integration. Following its acquisition last year of Mountain News Corporation, publishers of the website OnTheSnow.com, the new subsidiary of the Colorado-based ski resort holding company has this week also picked up the Internet property SkiReport.com.

The SkiReport.com website will be merged with the OnTheSnow website for the winter 2011-12 season. It will also give Vail Resorts a ten-fold increase in installed mobile apps with the acquisition of SkiReport.com’s iPhone and Android platforms.

“This acquisition positions us well to take advantage of the strong growth we are seeing in mobile platforms around the world,” said Chad Dyer, global managing director of Mountain News Corporation.

Going forward Mountain News will be providing the snow reports for the SkiReport mobile app, replacing the reports provided by SnoCountry Mountain Reports. How Vail Resorts may use its expanded journalistic enterprise to benefit its own ski resort properties remains to be seen.
