London, UK – With new high speed ski lift systems replacing meandering chairs and gondolas, and ski design evolving all the time, it’s now possible to cover huge areas of terrain in half a day. Gone are the days of half hour lift breaks between each run, leaving many skiers wondering why they’re feeling the burn at mid-afternoon when they used to ski until the lifts closed.
It’s no bad thing to finish early and relish the additional après time, or sample the growing variety of non-ski activities offered by resorts, but those who do want to keep up with the new lifts and skis might want to consider some pre-ski fitness training.
In association with the Ski Club of Great Britain, the Warren Smith Ski Fitness team are launching a brand new Ski Fitness campaign. The UK skiing public can attend the first ever official Ski Fitness session in Hyde Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 12. Whether they need to step it up from a fitness or technique perspective, the fitness day will help skiers to tune up for the winter season and even develop areas of their skiing technique without even setting foot on snow.
The program gives skiers an insight into overall ski fitness covering four main areas: essential pre-ski warm up, ski physiology and biomechanics range tests, ski-specific dry land training, and after-ski cool down and stretch. The four training areas help develop a range of movements essential for skiing which will increase performance and reduce the risk of injury. They also introduce a dry land training system that covers many aspects of fitness, muscle development and technique which can be practiced in the back yard.
The meeting point is by the park gates near Hyde Park Corner tube station at 11 a.m. Tickets cost £15 for members and £20 for non-members and are available from www.skiclub.co.uk/tickets or by calling 0208 410 2000. Non-members who wish to attend the Fitness Day can save £10 off Ski Club membership before booking and then save a subsequent £5 off their booking by using the code KEEPFIT11 at www.skiclub.co.uk/join.
