Great Barrington, MA – A Halloween weekend snowstorm marched up the East Coast over the weekend leaving up to two feet of snow, downed trees and power lines, and even some happy skiers and snowboarders in its wake.

Snowfall stretched from West Virginia to Maine and on into eastern Canada, but the deepest snow totals being reported are from the Berkshires of Massachusetts, where up to two feet accumulated. Ski Butternut in Great Barrington, Mass., reported 22 inches of new snow. Among open ski areas, Killington in Vermont logged six inches of new snow today, enough to open six runs including Upper East Fall and Upper Double Dipper, and Sunday River in Maine reported nine inches. The story of the day, however, was perhaps at Ski Plattekill in the Catskill Mountains town of Roxbury, N.Y., where resort owners opened up the ski area’s double chairlift for powder hounds eager to ski a foot of new natural snow.
