Reno, NV – A 7-year-old boy who fell from a chairlift at California’s Sugar Bowl Resort over the weekend has died.
The victim, identified by family and friends in published reports as John Henderson of Davis, Calif., was a member of Sugar Bowl’s race team. He was riding the resort’s Mt. Lincoln lift at approximately 11:15 a.m. Saturday morning with two other ski team members when he fell an estimated 60 feet from the chair onto hard surfaces below.
The boy was airlifted to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, where he died on Tuesday morning of apparent head injuries after doctor’s performed surgery to relieve cranial pressure in an attempted to save his life.
John Monson, Sugar Bowl’s Director of Marketing, confirmed the death on Tuesday. “It is with great sadness that we report the boy passed away earlier today due to injuries sustained in the fall,” Monson said. “The entire Sugar Bowl community extends our heartfelt thoughts and prayers, love and support to the boy’s family.”
The incident remains under investigation by regulators from the State of California, working in conjunction and cooperation with Sugar Bowl Resort personnel.
