Bad Gastein, Austria – Two days after LG Snowboard FIS World Cup officials announced the cancellation of next week’s snowboard cross competition in Bad Gastein, a plan has been devised to swap events and take advantage of the Austrian ski resort’s World Cup preparations.
Low snow condition have prompted race officials to reschedule the Bad Gastein snowboard cross, originally slated for Jan. 15, to Jan. 18-19 in Veysonnaz, Switzerland, where parallel races had been scheduled. The parallel slalom in Veysonnaz, meanwhile, has been shifted to Jan. 15 in Bad Gastein.
In announcing the cancellation on Tuesday, Austrian Ski Federation officials had said that there was enough snow on the Bad Gastein course to hold a parallel race, but not enough to craft a World Cup-class boardercross course and no hope to make sufficient snow in time to hold the event as originally scheduled.
