Bad Gastein, Austria – Switzerland’s Patrizia Kummer and Roland Fischnaller of Italy won the 2012 LG Snowboard FIS World Cup season’s fourth parallel slalom on Sunday in an event rescheduled from Veysonnaz, Switzerland. Each celebrated their third win of the season. While the current high flyer of the female race board scene locked in a three-peat by triumphing over her team mate Julie Zogg in the women’s finals, the male Italian snowboard team also secured a 1-2 punch as Fischnaller’s rival in the finals, Aaron March, also comes from South Tyrol.
In the battle for third, Austrian rider Marion Kreiner beat Japan’s Tomoka Takeuchi on the women’s side. Rok Flander of Slovenia rounded out the men’s podium in third by edging out Germany’s Patrick Bussler.
“Three wins in a row, I never thought of something like this. If somebody would have told me this in the beginning of this season, I wouldn’t have believed him,” said Kummer. “I’m so happy, I can’t describe my feelings. If I know bring it all together in the Parallel Giant Slaloms, I guess everything is possible. However, I still have the Yellow Bib in the next race.”
In every one of Kummer’s World Cup podiums, now four, she has stood at the top. Kummer extends her World Cup lead by 740 points over Switzerland’s Fraenzi Maegert-Kohli. Fischnaller, meanwhile, has regained the World Cup lead by 110 points over Austria’s Benjamin Karl.
“Indeed, I did take over the World Cup lead today but it’s going to be a very hard challenge to keep hold to it,” Fischnaller admitted. “I will fight hard and hope, that it pays off in the end. It would be a dream come true for me.”
The LG Snowboard FIS World Cup continues with two snowboard cross races in Veysonnaz, Switzerland, including the one which was originally planned for Bad Gastein. The first will take place Wednesday and Thursday, the second next weekend.
