A spokesman with the Unified Police of Greater Salt Lake indicates that David R. Reid, of Bradford, R.I., had left friends to ski Solitude’s double-black terrain in the area of Milk Run, an area with gated access that drops from the top of the resort’s Powderhorn II lift toward the loading terminal of the Summit Chair. Reports indicate that Reid lost control on a rocky and icy portion of the run before stumbling through a 200-foot area studded with boulders and tumbling off a 20 to 30 foot cliff.

Reid’s lifeless body was discovered some hours later by other skiers.
