Kummer, Fischnaller Secure Snowboard World Cup Season’s Fourth Win Each in Moscow

Moscow, Russia –Switzerland’s Patrizia Kummer and Roland Fischnaller of Italy each won the 2012 LG Snowboard FIS World Cup season’s fifth and final parallel slalom on a ramp in the middle of Moscow on Saturday.

Kummer assumed both the win and the World Cup lead from Austria’s Julia Dujmovits, Saturday’s runner-up, while Swiss rider Julie Zogg came in third ahead of Marion Kreiner of Austria.

“After four wins I guess it would be nice to have an extra World Cup title for the parallel slalom discipline,” said Kummer.  “I don’t know why, but it’s just turning out well for me. I just ride and keep on doing well. I don’t think too much at the moment, so I reckon that helps a lot.”

On the men’s side Fischnaller, last year’s winner in Moscow, also moved into the World Cup lead thanks to his season’s fourth win. Switzerland’s Simon Schoch and Andreas Prommegger of Austria rounded out the podium in second and third, respectively, driving Switzerland’s Kaspar Fluetsch off the podium in fourth.

“I had to settle a score with this ramp. Two years ago I slightly touched a gate and was unfortunately out of the race,” said Fischnaller.  “I set myself under high pressure as I wanted to do well here in Moscow. I settled the score and that makes me very proud.”

The World Cup men are now in a tight race for the Crystal Globe. Fischnaller is only 140 points ahead of Prommegger. Austria’s Benjamin Karl, who lost a lot of points on Saturday after he was closed out early in the qualifiers, is now far behind in third.

“I put a lot of energy into this race so I don’t know if there is any left for the last races and thus the duel for the Crystal Globe,” Fischnaller added. “I just take it from race to race.”

The LG Snowboard FIS World Cup continues with a parallel giant slalom in La Molina, Spain, on March 10th.
