Jackson Hole, WY – A 24-year-old woman is reportedly in a coma after falling several hundred feet down a chute while skiing in the Teton Mountains adjacent to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (JHMR) on Saturday.
Sally Francklyn, a public relations account executive with Denny, Ink. in Jackson Hole, was skiing the Once Is Enough couloir with friends on Saturday when she tumbled several hundred feet and shattered her ski helmet against rocks.
Franklyn was airlifted to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, where she is said to be in a medically induced coma as she is being treated for cranial fractures.
“She was skiing with friends on a beautiful bluebird Saturday, March 24, in the JHMR backcountry in perfect corn conditions,” family members wrote via the website CaringBridge.org. “She fell and slid, hitting her helmet on a rock, sustaining a cranial fracture. Her partners responded quickly and stabilized the situation. Once ski patrol arrived, Sally was transported to Idaho Falls.
“Sally is presently stable yet in a delicate state in ICU.”
Franklyn, who is well known in the ski industry and used to serve as the web content editor for SKI and Skiing magazines, relocated to Jackson Hole earlier this winter.
