Denver, CO – Skiers and riders looking for a unique architectural touch for their home or office might consider decorating with ski lift cable.

A byproduct of the ski industry, old ski lift cable is being “repurposed” by a Denver company as decorative hand railing for both the interior and exterior use. The inch and a half thick cable has both the strength and size that makes it ideal for this repurpose, officials of Repurposed Materials Inc. indicate.

Company founder Damon Carson headed for Colorado after college to ski, and got his start with a garbage hauling company in the Colorado ski resorts of Vail and Breckenridge. After selling out to Waste Management, Carson, now 40, turned his attention to new uses for items ski resorts and other industries throw away every day.

Retired ski lift cable is just one of the many industrial byproducts and waste sold by the company that serve both form and function when employed by creative designers. Repurposed Materials also sells used conveyor belts for garage flooring, retired wine barrels for home décor or trash cans, old roofing pavers for use as landscaping tiles, and lumber from snow fences lining roads in Wyoming to be used as fencing or siding.
