Colorado Springs, CO – Audi FIS Alpine World Cup overall champion and Olympic gold medalist Lindsey Vonn has been voted the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) Female Athlete of the Month for March.
Vonn, who secured a record fourth World Cup overall title and set a women’s season-long point record of 1,980 in March 2012, last captured the USOC honor in March of 2009 after winning her second overall title.
In addition to the overall title, Vonn locked the super G title in March to bring her career World Cup title total to another American record with 16.
With 53 victories, Vonn has won more World Cup races than any American. Among the women, only Annemarie Moser-Proell of Austria (62) and Vreni Schneider of Switzerland (55) are ahead of Vonn. On the men’s side, just two men have more: Ingemar Stenmark of Sweden (86) and Hermann Maier of Austria (54).
Vonn has won the USOC Award a total of five times: February 2008, March 2008, February 2009 and last in March of 2009.
