Big Sky, MT – Big Sky Resort is celebrating after closing its ski and snowboard season with over 340,000 skier visits, the most the Montana resort has ever seen.  With a season two weeks shorter than the 2010-11 season, the resort still saw and an increase over last year’s record skier numbers.

“The consistently good snow at Big Sky is key,” said Taylor Middleton, Big Sky Resort’s General Manager.  “Even while other resorts across the country struggled to keep slopes open this winter, Big Sky started off with a great base and continued to get powder throughout the season.  Skiers go where there’s snow.”

Lower season pass prices also drew skiers to the resort.  For the second year in a row, Big Sky Resort reduced adult season pass prices by 40% during its early season pass sale.  This prompted more skiers to buy full passes, and Big Sky saw a 25% increase in overall season pass sales.

In addition to an overall record season, Big Sky Resort saw a record holiday week between Christmas and New Years, and a record Presidents weekend during the 2011-12 season.  On Sunday, February 19th Big Sky Resort recorded its highest number of skiers in one day with an increase of 6% over the previous record day during the April 2011 Pond Skim.

“More skier visits means more business – for the resort and for the entire community,” said Middleton.
