Just a Month to Go Before the New World Cup Snowboard and Freeski Seasons Start

Lake Wanaka, New Zealand – Only a month remains before the start of the FIS Snowboard and Freestyle Ski World Cup’s new season. At the end of August, freestyle skiers and snowboarders will throw down to kick of the 2012-13 winter circuit in New Zealand.

For the second year in a row, Cardrona Alpine Resort near Lake Wanaka will host the season’s first halfpipe event in its superpipe.

The World Cup debut will wrap up the 2012 Winter Gamez NZ with ski and snowboard halfpipe competitions, this year’s sole stop for the tour in the Southern Hemisphere. Freestyle skiers will get things underway in the pipe on Aug. 22. Snowboard qualifiers will take place on Aug. 25, with the finals getting underway the following day.

The competition at Cardrona will also serve as the first opportunity to gain valuable points for the qualifications to represent each rider’s home country at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia. The Olympic qualification period got underway at the beginning of July.

  • Freeski Halfpipe Women and Men Qualifiers and Finals

Saturday, August 25:

  • Snowboard Halfpipe Qualifiers Women and Men at 8:45 a.m.

Sunday, August 26:

  • Snowboard Halfpipe Semi-finals Women and Men at 10 a.m.
  • Snowboard Halfpipe Finals Women and Men  at 12 noon
