Lincoln, NH – Loon Mountain Resort is gearing up for the New Hampshire ski area’s 2nd Annual Monster Mud Run and Halloween Monster Bash on October 27.
The Monster Mud Run is an adventure that pits runners against 16 obstacles along Loon’s mountainous 5k course. During the first edition of the run in 2011, competitors hurdled walls, ran a gauntlet of snowmaking guns, and forded shoe-sucking mud pits to reach the finish.
The 2012 edition of the Monster Mud Run poses similar challenges. On race day, the weather could be 60 degrees and sunny or 25 degrees and snowing. Either way, the first thing runners will encounter is a deep pool of mucky water at The Plunge of Paul Bunyan. Competitors will also practice their balance as they fight for space on the Walk The Line obstacle featuring metal chairlift cables, two Army trucks, and plenty of time off the ground. They’ll also get a feel for what it’s like to be a snowmaker as they encounter the Loon Snowmaking Boot Camp, where runners will get up close and personal with a 50-foot length of hose as they walk, run, and crawl uphill and downhill through snow guns and other features.
Competitors may enter the Monster Mud Run solo, or in teams of two to five racers. The top three finishers in each category – as well as the top three costumed runners – will win prizes. The cost to enter is $45 in advance, or $55 on race day, and includes a T-shirt and water bottle. Participants must be 18 or older to enter the Monster Mud Run. To register, visit www.loonmtn.com.
After the race, the fun continues with live music and an awards ceremony. Later that night, grab your costume for the Halloween Monster Bash at the Bunyan Room at 8:30 p.m. with live entertainment by The Running Gags from Portland, Maine. The show is 21+ and there is no cover charge. Best costumes will be awarded accordingly.
