Nashville, TN – Professional snowboarder Shaun White has reached a plea deal with prosecutors over charges that he went on a drunken vandalism spree at an upscale Nashville hotel in September.
White agreed on Wednesday to seek alcohol counseling, perform 24 hours of community service and pay restitution in exchange for having vandalism and public intoxication charges against him dropped.
The two-time Olympic gold medalist was arrested following the Sept. 16 incident in which he is alleged to have pulled a fire alarm at the Loew’s Vanderbilt Hotel in Nashville which caused the evacuation of all guests. An employee also said that he saw White destroy a hotel phone.
White reportedly attempted to flee the hotel in a cab but an unnamed citizen prevented the taxi from leaving, telling the driver he was calling police. When White overheard their conversation, he allegedly kicked the citizen and fled on foot. The citizen reported that he chased White until White turned and ran into him, apparently causing White to fall backwards and strike his head against a fence.
White was arrested following treatment for his injuries at a local hospital. He issued a public apology for his antics the following day on Facebook.
